Warren P. (Bud) Williamson, III

Mr. Warren P. Williamson, III is the retired Chairman of the Board of WKBN Broadcasting Corp. of Youngstown, Ohio. Over more than a 40 year period, he worked in various capacities in the family owned radio and television enterprise (WKBN AM/FM/TV) and was responsible for its entry into the cellular telephone business in 1985. He served as Chairman of Wilcom Cellular, which later became Sygnet Wireless before acquisition by Dobson Wireless in 1999. Mr. Williamson is currently a Director of Hypres Corp. (world leader in superconductive electronics).

Throughout his career he was active in many professional industries as well as various community affairs in Youngstown. His list of services includes serving as Director of Mahoning National Bank for twenty years (eventually becoming Chairman of the Executive Committee) and serving on the YSU Foundation, Boys Club of Youngstown, Goodwill Industries, Associated Neighborhood Centers and the Youngstown Symphony Center.

He was also active in broadcast industry affairs serving as a Director of the Association of Maximum Service Telecasters, including a term as Chairman of the Board. He served as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Advanced Television Test Center which was instrumental in the process by which the digital high definition (ATSC) broadcasting standard was developed and was a technical advisor to CBS Television Affiliate Stations Advisory Board during development of high definition standards. Mr. Williamson was a director on Silicon Light Machines board before it was acquired by Cypress Semiconductor and Chairman of Ortheon Medical LLC, developer of the “TenoFix” medical device for repair of hand tendons.

Mr. Williamson served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Research and Development Command from 1954-1956 where he was a project engineer and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his work in electronic countermeasures. He earned his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1953 and Master of Business Administration (1954, with distinction) from the University of Michigan and is a Registered Professional Engineer.
