Jeff Sinclair is a Director in McKinsey & Company’s Washington, DC Office. Prior to moving to DC, Jeff served in McKinsey’s San Francisco and Cleveland Offices. Since joining the Firm in 1981, Jeff has worked primarily in strategy and operations for U.S., Asian, and European high-tech, industrial, and consumer companies. Recent examples of Jeff’s client experience include:
- Assisting the management of a world-leading electronic components supplier establish a new global operating model, including product line strategy, product development, lean manufacturing and supply chain, delivering significant improvements in time-to-market, total delivered cost, and returns on capital
- Supporting the management of a world-leading computer hardware company through a comprehensive redesign of its product portfolio, optimizing complexity and speeding up the global supply chain, resulting in market leadership and significant improvements in profitability and returns
As co-founder of McKinsey’s Global Operations Practice, Jeff is a member of the leadership team that created and grew the practice from scratch to now almost 30 percent of the Firm. Leadership roles over the last 15 years have included Global Knowledge Leader (leader of R&D for the practice), co-founder of the Manufacturing Global Service Line, which he currently leads, and leader of the Supply Chain and Product Development Service Lines. He also co-led the creation and growth of McKinsey’s Global Knowledge Network, now more than 1500 professional researchers and knowledge managers supporting the Firm’s client service teams and knowledge development efforts.
While Office Manager in Cleveland, Jeff led the Firm’s work with the business and entrepreneurial community to accelerate innovation-driven economic development. This included the launch of a portfolio of successful organizations including BioEnterprise (a biomedical accelerator), Jumpstart (an early-stage capital and venture development organization), and NorTech (a regional technology strategy and advocacy group). He is now leading the Firm’s effort to support the Cincinnati business community in a similar initiative, and has served as the advisor to multiple McKinsey teams supporting regional innovation-base economic development throughout the world.
Before joining McKinsey, Jeff worked for Chrysler Corporation as a test engineer and IBM as a systems engineer. He holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan.
